Reel Lives with Scottish Dance Theatre
This Wed 16th March Artistic Director Janet Smith and some of the dancers from Scottish Dance Theatre will be at The Place sharing dance on screen that has inspired them.
Also, in celebration of their 25th anniversary they'll be there on the 18th and 19th March premiering their latest double bill 'Letters from America'.

Reel Lives with Hofesh Shechter
Aerowaves Director John Ashford and Hofesh Shechter share a selection of Hofesh’s favourite dances on screen.Hear from Hofesh what films, recordings, cinema scenes and youtube videos inspired one of the UK's favourite choreographers.

BLINK: MARGATE
On Saturday 27 August, for one night only, the seaside town of Margate in Kent will undergo a miraculous transformation. Multi-award-winning choreographer Wayne McGregor, extraordinary theatre ensemble Pan Optikum and innovative soundscape artist Scanner will collaborate to create a one-off, spectacular night-time event, BLINK.
Thousands are expected to gather along the seafront as buildings come alive, people take to the streets, stunning fire structures appear on the beach and the spectacle unfolds. BLINK is a celebratory event that will re-imagine not only the seafront, but also the sea and sky beyond.
Wayne McGregor | Random Dance will work closely with Pan Optikum in the months ahead to create a cohesive artistic vision for the event which features the 100-strong BLINK Dance company – a troupe of local people who will perform alongside professional dancers for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. German performance company Pan Optikum - who specialise in epic, outdoor, spectacular events - will ‘animate’ buildings, create stunning, large-scale fire objects, and interweave the theatrical and pyrotechnical elements of the show. Electronic wizard and supertalented musician/composer Scanner will provide the soaring sounds to complement
the sights.

One of the busiest and most in demand choreographers in the world, Wayne McGregor has carved out time in his 2011 schedule to be part of the project saying ‘Margate has an intriguing and enduring appeal and I was captivated by the opportunity to create something so site specific and outdoors. The parallel horizons of sky and sea, sea and beach and beach and town provide a rich canvas for dance, performance and sound. Made by, with and for local people BLINK should challenge the senses.’

CAUGHT IN THE ACT – DANCE IS NOW ILLEGAL
This is a world where dance and artistic expression are suppressed, forbidden and illegal. A number of persons have been caught in the act and are currently under investigation by the Enforcers. Persecutions are open to the public.
Dance and the act of dancing is strictly prohibited. Infringements of this will constitute a crime and persons found guilty will be liable for imprisonment or worse.
A person is found guilty of dancing if using movement as expression in a participatory, social, ceremonial, competitive, erotic or performance environment. Privately, publicly, as an individual or as a group – anyone caught in the act of dancing will be investigated by The Enforcers and will be found guilty.

London’s leading Hip Hop Company Avant Garde Dance are collaborating with digital artist Nic Sandiland and Edinburgh Fringe First winner Inua Ellams to create a fully immersive and interactive multimedia production.
Illegal Dance reveals an underground society where dance and artistic expression are suppressed, forbidden and illegal. Breaking convention and showing a distinctive and innovative style, an interactive realm will be created where the spectator becomes part of the spectacle and where the real and the surreal are blurred. The company’s last piece Spectrum, was described by The Stage newspaper as ‘bold, inventive dance – an adventure in Hip Hop,’ and received a number of four-star reviews.
